Rental Assistance

In Allegheny County, most rental assistance funding is coordinated through the Allegheny Housing Stabilization Collaborative (AHSC, pronounced “ask”). AHSC partners, including RentHelpPGH and ACTION-Housing, work alongside the Allegheny County Department of Human Services to design and administer programs that help as many households as possible remain safely housed.

Rental assistance availability changes throughout the year, and eligibility requirements vary depending on the funding source. In many cases, households seeking rental assistance must either participate in mediation through Just Mediation Pittsburgh or have an active eviction case filed in court.

Rental assistance can only be provided when it will support a sustainable housing outcome. In most cases, this means assistance cannot be paid for a unit the household does not intend or is unable to continue living in.

How do I access Rental Assistance?

  • Sign up for a landlord-tenant mediation and if both parties agree to mediate, you will be paired with a resource navigator from RentHelpPGH who will help you explore for potential resources.

  • If an eviction is filed at court,

    • Call the AHSC Hotline: 412-248-0021 or email rentalassistance@actionhousing.org

      • Please leave a voicemail with your name and phone number clearly stated.

      • You will receive a callback within 1-2 business days.
